The Legend of the Wolf Woman (1977)

Originally released as Werewolf Woman, Legend of the Wolf Woman explores the extreme effects of mental psychosis.

The first act opens in the 1800's .. a naked woman is dancing in a circle of fire, under a full moon. She transforms .. into a wolf-like beast.

Torch-wielding villages appear on the scene, and the chase begins. The Wolf Women manages to maim one of the men with an axe before being captured. She is bound, and burned at the stake.

The next scene opens in present day (the 1970s) .. where Daniella is in the hospital being treated for a variety of mental ailments. She awakens from a dream - one of the many nightmares which resulted in her stay at the hospital.

The beautiful young woman recounts the events to her father, explaining that she had found an old paper in the attic of their country house telling of the true Legend of the Wolf Woman - an ancestor of Daniella's who looked exactly like her.

We later find that in the past Daniella had murdered her sister's husband in a fit of jealousy. The crime was still unsolved .. as the body was found in the bottom of a valley deep in the forest.

Daniella eventually escapes the hospital and goes on a murder spree. After donning a change of clothes, she manages to hitch a ride with a local artist who takes her into his home. She enjoys his company, and is able to fight off her violent urges.

This peace is short-lived, however, as a gang of local workers invades the home, and murders her boyfriend.

Enraged, Daniella seeks revenge .. burning down a house in one case, and crushing one of the workers with demolition equipment in another.

She is back on the run .. living in the forest.

Police manage to track her down .. dancing in a circle of fire - she is captured.
