The story opens with horses - being taken to stud. The trainer, Mathurin, is intensely focused on this process.
We later learn Mathurin is to be wed to Lucy Broadhurst, portrayed by Lisbeth Hummel. She is brought to the castle to meet her suitor, and becomes overcome by erotic dreams during her visit.
She dreams of Romilda de l'Esperance (Sirpa Lane) in the 18th century, whom once dwelled within the walls of the compound. Madam l'Esperance is seeking a lost sheep in the forest, and encounters The Beast.
Lucy's dreams are intertwined with the story of the inpending marriage, and we later learn that Mathurin has close ties to the Beast in her dream ...
Walerian Borowczyk directed this critically acclaimed masterpiece of Victorian elegance and bestiality.
