Humanoids from the Deep

Dreadful:
Creepy fish monsters

Pleasure:
Sexploitation sub-theme

Best with:
Abita Purple Haze

Set in a small southern fishing town, Humanoids from the Deep has an interesting sub-plot offered in addition to the expected creatures-of-terror type plot.

A large corporation is planning on building a large fish cannery (processing plant) which would have both positive (jobs) and negative (environment) affects on the community. Most of the fisherman support the project .. but local Indians are opposed. The two sides escalate to violence just before the creature threat intervenes (and actually causes the two sides to unite).

The creatures turn out to be mutant fish or frogs which received super-large doses of growth hormones (originally meant to help local salmon population).

Borrowing many cues from Creature from the Black Lagoon and Alien, Humanoids from the Deep is very watchable, and has a few sexy scenes to boot.

Filming was done primarily in Fort Bragg / Fayetteville, NC; the area is referred to as "Noyo".

There several scenes involving gore / mutiliation .. and several brief glimpses of nudity also.

Directed by Barbara Peeters, produced by Roger Corman;
starring Doug McClure, Ann Turkel, Vic Morrow, Cindy Weintraub, and Anthony Penya.
